Montgomery County Sheriff's Office208 Broad StreetMount Vernon, GA Before taking over his role as Sheriff, Clarance Sanders had a long history in law enforcement beginning in 1981 as bailiff in Montgomery County’s Small Claims Court. In June of 1983 he began working as a deputy for then Sheriff Jim Higgs where he served until 1997 when he took over the Office of Sheriff. Sheriff Sanders is active in his community and enjoys spending his leisure time outdoors with his family.

Although the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office is a small law enforcement agency, it has always been my concern and the concern of the officers here to protect the rights and safety of each and every citizen. I take great pride in serving as Sheriff of Montgomery County and by working together, you and I can make Montgomery County a safer place to live. Sheriff Sanders was born on May 25, 1944 to R. Gene and Clara Hatcher Sanders of Treutlen County, Georgia. He married Rubie Nell Moxley on June 23, 1963. They have one daughter, Leigh Anne Helms, a son-in-law Rodney, and two grandchildren, Hunter and Adrianna.
